Our "Upside-Down" Pulpit Bible A few years ago, our former pastor was indulging a favorite hobby--browsing through a local Christian bookstore--when he noticed a beautiful, oversized pulpit Bible that had been marked down to an unbelievably low price. Curious, he picked the bible up and began to examine it. Its exterior was flawless, full-grain leather with beautiful gold embossing. The interior pages, gilt with golden edges, were expertly printed in large, easy-to-read Garamond type on fine quality acid-free paper. There was even a pair of crimson satin ribbon page markers neatly stitched into the binding for marking favorite Old and New Testament scriptures. It was, it seemed, a perfect Bible and as he returned it to the shelf he couldn't imagine why it had been marked down to a fraction of its normal price. Indeed, it was such a good deal, he couldn't resist picking it back up again, flipping it over as he did so because he'd inadvertently returned it to the shelf upside-down. And that's when he realized why it was priced so low. He hadn't returned it to the shelf upside-down, after all. Instead, he discovered the contents of the Bible, Genesis through Revelation, had mistakenly been bound into the cover upside-down.
